The Würth Education Award

The Competence Center Economic Education under the roof of the Charitable Würth Trust invites bids for the Würth Education Award every year, honoring future-oriented school projects on business and the economy. The competition was organized in the spring of 2006 for the first time.

The entrepreneur Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth is the initiator of the award. He has been observing the economic education of young people attentively for many years, and gave a clear impulse by establishing the Competence Center Economic Education in 2005 to emphasize that knowledge of business ought to be conveyed more in schools. Within this framework, the Competence Center closely cooperates with the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sports in Baden-Württemberg.

All secondary schools in Baden-Württemberg without specialization can apply for the Würth Education Award. Unlike many other awards, the project honored is not something that was completed and carried out in the past, but it is about an innovative project plan to be implemented in the following academic year by the respective schools. The primary aim of the projects carried out within this context is to strengthen entrepreneurial and economic thinking and acting at school.

In a first step, six schools are selected every year from all the applicants who will receive professional advice and financial support for the implementation of their projects. After one year, the Competence Center Economic Education will present the Würth Education Award, including another EUR 12,000 in prize money, to the best among those projects and hand over the “Oscar Fasty” trophy.
