Management Symposium of the Competence Center Economic Education combines economy and school

Künzelsau/Rust. On Friday and Saturday, 14 and 15 November 2008, 103 executives from school and economy got together at the conference hotel “Colosseo/Santa Isabel” inEuropa-Park Rust to hold the 2nd Management Symposium. The event was organized by the Competence Center Economic Education of the Charitable Würth Trust.

The symposium had as its motto “Management Culture in Education and Economy - Developing Competence - Promoting Quality” and addressed principals from the administrative region of Freiburg as well as human resources managers and executives from economy in South Baden. The objective of the event was to establish a network to strengthen the active dialog between the fields of school and economy. The participants got to know the field of activity of each other by working on joint projects as well as by exchanging personal experiences.

The two-day symposium started on Friday at noon with welcoming words by Thomas Schenk, Head of the Advisory Board “Economic Education” and Chairman of the Working Team School and Economy of Baden-Württemberg. Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Würth Group’s Family Trusts, and Helmut Rau MdL, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Baden-Württemberg, opened the event. Jürgen Mack, Managing Associate of Mack KG, subsequently gave a lecture on the topic “Management culture, using Europa-Park Rust as example”. Peter Fratton, President of the Executive Board of SBW – Häuser des Lernens – Holding AG and head of the primary school level of Freie Schule Anne-Sophie, which is supported by the Charitable Würth Trust, presented the topic “Lead me not into temptation. Fractal management at the enterprise ’school’ – An example.“

Subsequently, the participants were given the opportunity to discuss and deepen the topics of the first day of the symposium during a moderated round of talks at the “World Café”.

In the morning of the second day, several workshops were held which intensified the dialog between the participants due to their working closely together. Three of the six parallel workshops dealt with the topics of personnel selection and personnel development. Central issues of the three other workshops were “Feedback culture as prerequisite for success in education systems and economy”, “Customer and service orientation at schools and in economy” as well as “Management by learning”. The working groups were headed by teams consisting of one person from school and one person from economy and presented their results at the plenary session.

Prof. Dr. Sabine Boerner from the chair of management, leadership and strategy at the Constance University brought the series of presentations of the two-day symposium to a close by lecturing on “Leadership in an orchestra: Art without artistic license?”

In 2009, the event will be continued for principals as well as human resources managers and executives from economy from the administrative region of Tübingen.

Competence Center Economic Education

The Competence Center Economic Education Baden-Württemberg is an initiative by the Charitable Würth Trust and was called into being by the entrepreneur Professor Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth in 2005. Main aim of the competence center is to bring schools closer to economic topics. There is a close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Youth and Sports of Baden-Württemberg.
