The “Competence Center Economic Education“ organizes Symposium for Managers

Künzelsau/Schwäbisch Hall. The “Competence Center Economic Education” of the charitable Würth Trust invited for the first time to a symposium for managers last Friday and Saturday, 5 and 6 October 2007, that was organized at Hotel “Krone“ in Schwäbisch Hall-Hessenthal. The symposium was booked out with around 140 participants.

The event was arranged under the motto “Shaping Changes Successfully – Management Culture at Schools and in Economy” and was directed to managers from schools and economy of the administrative district of Stuttgart. It was the aim of the symposium to promote the active dialog between the two areas and to improve the mutual understanding by working on joint issues.

Hannelore Gloger, Head of the Competence Center Economic Education, welcomed the participants. Thomas Schenk, referee of “School and Economy” of the ministry of education and cultural affairs, youth and sports in Stuttgart, as well as Dr. Margret Ruep, school president from the regional board in Stuttgart, delivered a short speech, too. Various contributions by speakers from economy and school opened up the program. Professor Reinhold Würth, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Würth Group’s Family Trusts, spoke about “Management Culture and Success”. Besides Heribert Rohrbeck as further speaker from economy, Barbara Graf, director of Hegel Gymnasium Stuttgart-Vaihingen delivered a speech on “Making Schools Places of Recognition”.

In the subsequent panel discussion as well as a joint dinner the participants had intensive talks with each other and formed new contacts.

In five workshops on Saturday the dialog on certain topics could be deepened and several questions handled more intensively. The question “How can I find out what motivates people?” was put in the center of the workshop directed by Dr. Michael Zürn, head of department at DaimlerChrysler AG and Peter Eyerer, Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology. Further workshops dealt with quality management, corporate culture, communication for managers as well as with choosing the right managers and employees. The symposium was closed with a summary of the workshops’ results.

It is planned to organize further manager symposiums in other administrative districts of Baden-Württemberg in the coming years.
