Official Presentation of the Prize “Select Place 2007” in the “Land of Ideas” to the Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie
Künzelsau. Within the framework of a ceremony for invited guests at Stadthalle Künzelsau Peter Bertling and Axel Hepelmann, representatives of Deutsche Bank AG - partner of the initiative “Land of Ideas”, officially presented the prize “Select Place 2007” to the Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie, a business of the Würth Group.
In his eulogy Peter Bertling particularly underlined the independent and responsible work of each individual employee the unique hotel project is based on. “The Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie combines in an exemplary way the readiness to perform with heart thus demonstrating impressively how ideas can be turned into entrepreneurial and social successes” said Bertling.
Volker Lenz, mayor of the town of Künzelsau, particularly emphasized in this address the personal commitment of Carmen Würth, initiator of the Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie and managing director of Anne-Sophie GmbH, for the social integration of handicapped people. “This prize on which we express our congratulations is a worthy recognition for the extraordinary commitment of our honorary citizen.”
Carmen Würth is deeply moved: “The award by the initiative “Land of Ideas” is a great honor to me and makes me feel very happy. It indeed makes us a little proud that our Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie has been chosen as a place that distinguishes itself by its wealth of ideas, creative passion and visionary thinking.” At the same time the prize was a nice incentive to continue pushing forward the idea of an integrative cooperation between handicapped and non-handicapped people.
The “Festival of Meeting People”
On the occasion of the presentation of the prize "Select Place 2007" the Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie celebrated the “Festival of Meeting People” in Künzelsau on March 11, 2007. A colorful program presented on two stages in connection with an all-day Sunday shopping lured about 10,000 people into the center of the town at a wonderful spring day.
One of the highlights of the day was the street running under the motto “People Run for People”: For every round run the sponsors of the festival sponsored 50 cent in aid of the organization “Special Olympics”. The worldwide biggest sports organization for people with mental handicap introduced itself in an impressive way with the demonstration of various types of sports in the gym of the Schlossgymnasium College. Michael Holtmann (SWR radio channel) interviewed many prominent sportsmen on the stage in the upper part of the town.
The “Open House” of the Würzburger Bau annex that belongs to the Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie also met with great interest. About 4,500 visitors came to see the building that was inaugurated last year.
The Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie and its Concept
Being the only one of its kind in Germany, Hotel-Restaurant Anne Sophie opened its doors in 2003: It was the goal of initiator Carmen Würth to create an institution in Künzelsau, which fosters integration and personality development of handicapped people. The Hotel-Restaurant Anne Sophie is supposed to enable them to actively take part in social life and to have a useful job.
The building houses a hotel, a restaurant with café, a vaulted cellar for events as well as a seminar area. Together with the “Würzburger Bau” annex that was opened in autumn 2006 the hotel-restaurant currently employs 21 handicapped and 23 non-handicapped people in the service area. The handicapped employees are trained by staff members who are both with qualification in the field of catering and in the pedagogic area with the aim to make them ready for working independently in the kitchen or service area.
