Würth Group expands its wind energy business

Takeover of Cardinal Fastener Co. Inc., Ohio / Fastener manufacturer strengthens the Würth Group's global network of specialists in assembly materials for wind power plants

Künzelsau. The Würth Group further strengthens its range in the field of assembly material for wind power plants. In August 2011, the Norwegian company Dokka Fasteners that was acquired by the Würth Group in 2008 inaugurated Dokka Fasteners Inc., its branch in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Now, the Würth Group has also taken over Cardinal Fastener & Speciality Co. Inc. based in Cleveland, Ohio.

With the three production facilities of Dokka Fasteners and Cardinal Fastener in Norway (1) and the USA (2), the Würth Group has turned into the leading manufacturer of large-diameter, hot-forged bolts in a short time. While Dokka Fasteners with its high level of automation is geared towards supplying the rapidly growing wind energy sector with high-volume articles, the newly acquired company Cardinal Fastener will flexibly round off the existing segment by offering smaller and medium sizes.

"Wind energy will be an increasingly important topic for the Würth Group. We have set our sights on doubling our wind energy sales by 2015. By 2020, we wish to generate sales of at least EUR 500 million per year," says Robert Friedmann, Chairman of the Central Managing Board of the Würth Group. "The acquisition of Cardinal Fastener will certainly contribute to this and further emphasize our expertise in this field."

Besides supplying manufacturers as well as assemblers and maintenance firms of wind power plants, the company's wind energy strategy focuses on technical consulting and services. In addition to that, further Würth Group companies in the industry sector operate in all relevant global markets with divisions specializing in renewable energies, supplying fasteners, tools as well as manufacturing supplies to production lines and construction sites.

Cardinal Fasteners will be an independent subsidiary of the Würth Group of North America. Just as at the existing companies, the company invests considerably in quality assurance to live up to Würth Industry's motto "We sell security" in terms of wind power as well.
