Würth sponsors spanish top cycling team

Liberty Seguros Würth

Künzelsau, 28 June 2005. The Würth Group is official co-sponsor of the Spanish cycling team Liberty Seguros Würth. The world market leader in the field of fastening and assembly technology (sales 2004: 6.2 billion euro) based in Künzelsau/Region of Hohenlohe had, since the year 2000, been partner of the Spanish ONCE team, from which the Liberty Seguros team of professional cyclists emerged last year.
Since the 2005 season, Würth has significantly strengthened its commitment towards the team. Würth now forms part of the team name, and with the sponsoship, the Würth Group has strengthened its presence on the shirt. The decisive factor for the commitment to the Spanish cycling team was not only the longstanding co-operation with the predecessor ONCE but also the high sporting quality of the team and the professional environment. Apart from that, the global trading company has become main sponsor of the Tour de Suisse (three-year contract) and sponsors, in addition to the team Liberty Seguros Würth, the team of cyclists under 23 years of age.
The current team of Liberty Seguros Würth, comprises many renowned and successful cyclists such as Roberto Heras, Joseba Beloki, Igor Gonzáles, Alberto Contador or the German professional Jörg Jaksche.

High Expectations of the Spanish Top Team

The enthusiasm of the spectators and the general interest of the media in cycling have grown continuously over the past few years. Both the big tours such as the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, the Spanish Vuelta and the Tour de Suisse as well as cycling classics such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège or Paris-Roubaix are internationally renowned top events. The new regulation of the UCI (International Cycling Union), which has been valid since the current season, will push this sport even further. The newly founded ProTour obliges all teams to participate in all 27 ProTour races, to which the big tours as well as all famous classic tours belong. At the end of the season, the individual winners and the team victors will be honored.
As the team of Liberty Seguros Würth is well-balanced and strong it has good opportunities to obtain top places in both competitions. The first results of this season confirm that technical director Manolo Saiz has set up the right team and pursued the correct transfer policy.
