Würth Group successfully sticks to its growth course - Business results of the Würth Group in the 1st half-year of 2007

  • Trading group increases sales by 10.7 percent to EUR 4.29 billion in the first six months
  • EUR 321 million operating result

  • 225th Pick-up branch opened in Germany

Already in the first quarter of 2007 the Würth Group reported a new record – for the first time in its history the Group succeeded in generating a sales volume of over EUR 2 billion. The Würth Group managed to take the energy of this excellent start into the second quarter without being stopped. Accumulated until June 30, 2007, the Würth Group achieved a sales volume of EUR 4.29 billion, which corresponds to a sound double-digit growth of 10.7 percent. All in all, the Würth Group forecasts total growth of 10.1 percent and record sales of EUR 8.53 billion for the year 2007.

In Germany, the Würth Group increased its sales volume to EUR 1.68 billion. This corresponds to a growth of 11.4 percent. With a sales volume of EUR 2.61 billion the companies abroad generated a growth of 10.3 percent in the first half of the year.

Disproportionate increase of the operating result in relation to sales

In the first half-year of 2007, the operating result increased by 15.5 percent to EUR 321 million and is therefore EUR 43 million higher than last year. The Würth Group is confident that it will succeed in attaining a new record result in 2007.

30,000th sales rep hired

As of 30 June 2007, the Würth Group has 60,564 employees on its payroll worldwide. These are an additional 7,558 employees and an increase of 14.3 percent compared to the same period of last year. 3,993 employees were added through company acquisitions.

The number of sales representatives went up by 6.1 percent to 30,016 worldwide. The Würth Group – one of the worldwide biggest employers of sales representatives with permanent tenure – was particularly pleased about the employment of the 30,000th sales representative. The new colleague is going to work at the Würth company in Brazil the sales team of which has almost been doubled in the past two years and that employs a total of 1,410 sales representatives.

The number of in-house staff in the Würth Group grew – mainly due to company acquisitions – by 23.6 percent to a total of 30,548 employees.

Investment in young staff with lasting effect – Newcomer Info Days at Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG

In July 2007, Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG had a total of 249 trainees. On July 14, 2007, Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG invited the new trainees who are going to start their training with the next training year in September at the locations in Künzeslau-Gaisbach and Bad Mergentheim (incl. Würth Industrie Service GmbH and Comgroup Gesellschaft für Systemintegration mbH) to a Newcomer Info Day at the Group headquarters. This way, the trainees are given the opportunity to learn more about the company offering the training and to get in contact with other trainees.

In addition to that, 40 employments are planned for the branch offices all over Germany so that from September 2007 on 417 trainees will be employed with the company.

Furthermore, 294 junior sales reps take part in a special two-year educational model of Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG that starts on Saturday, June 30, 2007, in order to also provide the sales team with the qualified staff they need.

Strategy on pick-up branches is going to be extended further

The Würth Group extends the network of its pick-up branches further in addition to the system of direct selling on national and international level. “On 22 June 2007, we could open the 225th pick-up branch in Freising. With this we are getting closer to our target of establishing an extensive network of pick-up branches all over Germany through which we can be reached by every customer who wants to satisfy his/her immediate needs within a maximum of 10 minutes”, states Peter Zürn, Managing Director of Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG Germany.

In the pick-up branches, which cover 600 square meters on average, customers find a representative cross section of the most popular Würth products needed every day. About 5,500 products are offered at the pick-up branches to the customers for being taken away immediately.
