Invitation to apply for the Würth Education Award for the school year 2009/2010 – Award for future-oriented economics school projects

Künzelsau. For the fourth time, the Competence Center Economic Education of the Charitable Würth Trust is inviting secondary schools providing a general education in Baden-Württemberg to submit applications for this year’s Würth Education Award. By 31 July, the schools may hand in future-oriented economics projects. The best projects are awarded prize money of EUR 12,000 in total.

The Competence Center does not give the Würth Education Award to projects which have already been completed, but accompanies the participating schools throughout the entire project period, providing advice and financial resources. In autumn 2010, the best projects will be awarded prize money of EUR 12,000 in total. Secondary schools in Baden-Württemberg providing a general education are asked to apply by 31 July 2009 with innovative, business-oriented class projects (e.g. in the fields of economy-work-health, geography-economics-social studies) or school development projects transcending subjects or classes. The planned projects handed in are assessed according to six main criteria. The ideas are supposed to promote economic education, involve students in the project, be innovative and excel through detailed and realistic planning. Further important aspects are sustainability and a quality check of the project.

After the application deadline has expired, a panel of experts chooses six schools which will be supported for one year in the implementation of their ideas. In addition, the schools will remain members of the Würth Promotional Circle for two years after the award ceremony, thus forming part of the network and receiving further assistance.

Günther H. Oettinger, Minister President of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, has assumed patronage of the Würth Education Award.

Competence Center Economic Education The Competence Center Economic Education Baden-Württemberg is an initiative by the entrepreneur Professor Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth. In 2005, he founded this institution under the roof of the Charitable Würth Trust to convey economics in schools in a more practical and intense manner and to increase the know-how of teachers and students on economic processes and entrepreneurship. Within this framework, the Competence Center closely cooperates with the Ministry for Education, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Sports in Baden-Württemberg.

The Competence Center Economic Education annually invites bids for the Würth Education Award from future-oriented business-related school projects. The competition was organized in spring 2006 for the first time.
