In June, the best of the best of Germany's junior professional staff in industry, crafts and the service sector met in the trade fair city Leipzig. No matter whether mechatronics engineer, industrial electronics technician or landscape gardener from Baden-Württemberg, welder from Schleswig-Holstein, the mobile robotics guys from Thuringia, the restaurant manager and the tile setter from Bavaria or the carpenter from Brandenburg - with their professions they are all members of the German national team. The 25 nominated and qualified trainees and young skilled workers under 23 years represent the German colors in 22 disciplines at the 41st WorldSkills vocational skills championships in London.
From 5 to 8 October 2011, the English capital will host this top-class international competition that takes place every two years. More than 1,000 participants from approximately 50 countries will compete in 45 WorldSkills disciplines and determine their champions. Beforehand, the German participants already qualified for the German WorldSkills team in regional and national competitions in the disciplines of their vocational skills. "We saw performances on a world-cup level, which makes us hope for good performances in London as well", says Elfi Klumpp, executive board director of WorldSkills Germany, happily. "It is important that our team consisting of participants, specialists, helpers and representatives of SkillsGermany present themselves well prepared and make a lasting, positive impression, since in two years, the German city of Leipzig wants to be the next first-class host of the 42nd WorldSkills vocational championships."
For the German participants, the final preparation for London began with the training camp in Leipzig. Besides the reception given by Leipzig's lord mayor, organizational briefings, mental trainings and media trainings, the spirit and purpose of the training camp was getting to know each other and forming a team. In the weeks to come, the participants will be prepared for their tasks at the WorldSkills in individual training sessions by their instructors and internationally experienced helpers, before they leave by plane for the competition venue, the London trade fair grounds of ExCel, on 01 October.
Würth too, will be represented at the 2011 WorldSkills as Global Industry Partner by Würth UK, our subsidiary located near London.
