With precision and technique
At the turn of the millennium, ski jumping in Germany was considered "the Formula One of winter". At that time, ski-jumping stars Sven Hannawald and Martin Schmitt were cheered by hundreds of thousands of fans. After some middling years, the team of the German Skiing Association has been coached by Austrian Werner Schuster since 2008. Ever since, the German Eagles around Severin Freund, Andreas Wank, Andreas Wellinger and Marinus Kraus have been flying high again.
At the Olympic Games in Sochi, they just about missed the target of a men's individual medal but in the team jumping event the German team beat favorite Austria in an exciting competition and won gold. As for the women's team, Carina Vogt was one of the biggest surprises in Sochi. Having never won any World Cup event, the 22-year old stood up to athletes thought to have much higher chances and won the gold medal.
